Marketing From Inside the Innovation Ecosystem
Marketing for EIT hubs, accelerators and innovation programmes is a discipline of its own. Here's what eight years inside the ecosystem taught us.
Most marketing studios come to the innovation world from the outside and spend months learning how it works. We came from the inside, and it changed how we think about the whole job.
Over eight years inside the EIT ecosystem, working with hubs, accelerators and founders across clean energy, mobility and cleantech, a few truths have become impossible to ignore.
The ecosystem has its own language
EIT hubs, RIS structures, accelerators, cohorts, KICs… The innovation world runs on a shared vocabulary and a shared set of expectations. Founders can tell in seconds whether you actually understand their world or you're a generalist agency reaching for buzzwords. Marketing that speaks the language lands; marketing that doesn't gets ignored.
Brand compliance is real, and it's specific
For an EIT hub or programme, everything has to follow brand rules precisely, and those rules differ across communities. What's on-brand for one is off-brand for another. A marketing partner who already knows the guidelines saves months of back-and-forth and protects the relationship with the wider institute.
Founders need clarity
The innovation world is full of ambitious, technical people building genuinely hard things. They don't respond to marketing gloss. They respond to clear communication that respects the complexity of their work while making it accessible to the people who need to understand it; investors, partners, future team members. The job is to make a serious idea land.
Recruitment is marketing's real test
Filling an accelerator cohort with the right startups is one of the hardest, and most measurable, marketing challenges there is. It's where strategy, targeting, content and community all have to work together. Get it right and the whole programme succeeds; get it wrong and no amount of post-event content saves it.
Marketing for the innovation ecosystem is a discipline of its own, and it rewards those who actually live in it.
Working on something in the EIT or innovation world? We already speak the language. Let's connect!
